Production rate is the whole bid
Every janitorial bid is secretly a bet on square feet per hour. Overestimate it by 20% and your "15% margin" contract runs at break-even for a year, because commercial contracts don't renegotiate when your crew is slow. Walk the building before bidding: count restrooms (they clean at a third of the open-office rate), check floor types, and ask what the last company missed — that answer is usually where the hours hide. Bid the building you walked, not the square footage on the RFP.
